TOPDON makes professional-grade diagnostic and automotive tools for do-it-yourselfers: people who'd rather roll up their sleeves and fix something right the first time than hand over the keys. When TOPDON came to us for a commercial, the brief was clear. Show the mindset behind the tools, not just the tools themselves.

We filmed the spot in Charlotte, in the home garage of a genuine car enthusiast. He and his wife loved opening up their garage to us and hung out with the crew the whole day, which made for a relaxed, easy shoot. The garage is the kind of space that tells you right away its owner knows what they're doing, with well-used tools, a project car and years of weekend work on display. That authenticity mattered, because TOPDON's audience would spot a staged set instantly. Our aim was a commercial with pace: quick cuts, tight framing on hands and tools, and a rhythm that feels like a good Saturday in the garage.

We paid close attention to the product. Diagnostic tools can look anonymous on camera, so we lit them to show off their build quality and shot the screens so the interface reads clearly in a few frames. Just as important were the people. We cast and directed for authenticity, looking for the small moments of focus and confidence that any DIYer will recognize.

In the edit, sound design carried a lot of the energy. The click of a connector and the hum of an engine turning over put you in the room. The result is a spot that moves fast but still feels grounded. It aired nationally during Thursday Night Football, putting TOPDON in front of viewers across the country.
